Welcome to the website of the National Capital Area Chapter of the Sumi-e Society of America. Our members meet bi-monthly (the last Thursday of the month) from September through May where they enjoy a variety of programs relating to East Asian art, specifically sumi-e (ink painting), including demonstrations by experienced artists. Members receive bi-monthly newsletters with special articles about brush painting, notices of exhibits in our area, notes about member activities, and other information. We also organize workshops with master painters and special exhibitions in which our members have opportunities to display their art. We are a local chapter of the Sumi-e Society of America, which is a national nonprofit organization established to foster appreciation of East Asian brush painting and calligraphy, to create a bridge between East Asian and Western cultures, to exhibit sumi-e art and conduct educational activities such as lectures, demonstrations and workshops.
