Lunar New Year Celebration at the National Museum of Asian Art

Lunar New Year 2025 Celebration

On Saturday February 1st, members of the National Capital Area Chapter participated in the celebration of Lunar New Year at the National Museum of Asian Art. The activities called “Family Fun” were held in the Freer Gallery of Art, the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery and the Arts and Industry Building. Our Chapter’s volunteers were in the Sackler Gallery. Bing Huang and Mei-Lih Chiang wrote names and good wishes in Chinese on red paper. Carla Jaranson, Anne Klein, Suzanne Tolstoy, Amy Quach, Robin Frosh and Carole Yee gave instructions on how to paint simple animals for the visitors to create their own sumi-e paintings. We had people young and old with many who were so interested and continued to stay to practice and learn other animals. With a long line out the door we had almost 400 visitors. After we were finished, everyone was exhausted but was reveling in that feeling that we did a good job.
